PrésentationFour Molières 2019 nominations
The faithful translation of the text skilfully renders the strength of the heart of this piece with autobiographical echoes: in the forefront, the portrait of a family in crisis with an absent father; in the background, the setting of the great depression of the 1930s. Amanda vacillates between her frustration and her personal regrets and her duties as the mother of the family. The daughter Laura, shy and with a complex, takes refuge in an imaginary world in order to escape a reality that she can’t handle; the son Tom reluctantly takes on the role of the man of the house, caught in the trap of an everyday life far from his aspirations. And Amanda will ask him to prepare the future of his fragile little sister by finding her a suitor.
The elegance of the actors’ stage direction and the light plays give an irresistible transparency to this poignant glass menagerie: in observing the intimate life of this precarious family, we see a universal one!
Télérama: It is rare to see a show in the theatre that verges on a state of grace: this is the case here!
Le Parisien: A moment of rare beauty and emotion.
Figaroscope: A very beautiful piece, staged with care and inventiveness by Charlotte Rondelez, who directs a quartet of excellent actors with tact.
