PrésentationWork for 15 dancers and 5 musicians
The New Vietnam Circus is the fruit of the adventure of two brothers, students at the National Circus School of Hanoi. The first, Nhat Ly Nguyen, chose music and became a composer, the second, Lan Maurice, decided to teach circus skills and develop a method close to philosophy. They founded the circus troupe in 2008, with their childhood friend Tuan Le, who had become a juggler.
Làng Tôi, my village and Ô Làng Phô their previous shows, depicted the life of a village, and then the trip from the countryside to the urban frenzy. This time Teh Dar, transports us into the heart of Vietnam, to the people of the high plateaux. This spectacular aesthetic fresco illustrates the traditions and endurance that shape these mountain people’s cultural identity: in the form of a round dance, between pagan rites and deity worship, the artists perform dazzling acrobatics over a succession of original bamboo apparatus. You will find it difficult not to hold your breath at the spectacle of their stunts, performed to a hypnotic rhythm of the percussions and the traditional songs and chants. Stamped with the troupe's thematic and stylistic identity, Teh Dar (‘going round in circles, around a fire’ in the K'ho language) is also a poetic evocation of belief in the eternal cycle of life, from birth to reincarnation, and is at once an artistic show and an ethnographic experience. Disorienting, fascinating, impressive!
Suitable for children over 8 and adults
