The Toulon Opera Symphony Orchestra has established itself as one of the best orchestras for Mozart and is renowned for the precision of its performances, marked with a refined and dynamic delivery full of stylish excess. It will be performing in Cannes, conducted by the Festival’s Artistic Director and accompanied by one of the most emblematic of French pianists. It shines brightly in a spirited programme that sparkles with good humour: after the stunning overture from “Der Schauspieldirektor” with an eminently classical structure, it will then be the accomplice of an inspired soloist to give a breath of fresh air to “Concerto No. 3” with its pre-romantic touches. Jean-Philippe Collard demonstrates the ease of the greats in ceaselessly evolving, combining simplicity, vivacity and power with beautiful balance to highlight all the chromatic intensity of the score. His unpretentious virtuosity is not a show, but gives coherence to the works and encourages dialogue with the orchestra. The Orchestra’s musicians excel as a whole in emphasizing the clear tones and structural finesse through extracts from the sensory kaleidoscope that is Mendelssohn’s masterpiece and throughout Prokofiev’s “Classical Symphony”.
