PrésentationThe unmissable cultural event of the summer returns to Cannes for its fifth edition at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
Organized by Cannes Town Hall and open to everyone, the pop-up museum entirely dedicated to the world of the silver screen is this year presenting an exhibition co-produced by La Cinémathèque Française [French film organization] and the Cineteca di Bologna Foundation [Italian film archive], entitled “Once upon a time there was…Sergio Leone”. Presented this winter in Paris at La Cinémathèque Française, the exhibition will start its tour in the town of Cannes.
“Once upon a time there was Sergio Leone” tells the tale of a man, a talented creator loved by the public of yesterday and today, a film maker venerated by modern directors, from Martin Scorsese to Steven Spielberg, from Francis Ford Coppola to Quentin Tarantino, from John Woo to Clint Eastwood.
The exhibition is aimed at both those who want to discover Leone’s work, and at those who know each of his shots by heart. The journey aims to keep some surprises, even for the most knowledgeable of visitors: the exhibition will be in the form of a labyrinth, aiming to stimulate the brain and heart of all those that discover it. It will combine the known with the unexpected, strong images and illusion, like Leone often did as of “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964).
Visitors will discover a new link between actors and scenery, the manufacture of progressively dilating time, the entertaining use of words, the precise work of sound, and artistic complicity with Ennio Morricone, who created some of the most original and recognizable soundtracks of the 20th century.
THE HIGH POINTS OF THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
An exhibition devoted to the work of Gilles Traverso with photographs of the red carpet from last year’s Cannes Film Festival as well as fifteen photographic works revisited by four artists from Cannes, Richard Ferri-Pisani, Yo, Spore and Antho Good Time from the Art Cannes Tatoo space.
THE POP-UP CINEMA MUSEUM WORKSHOPS
Every day from 14:30, workshops are available for younger members of the public (age 6 and up). On registration only via the www.cannes-cinema.com website from 24 June or directly on site.
On the programme: creation of a short stop-motion film. (Stop motion is an animation technique allowing movement to be created using inanimate objects. The concept is close to that used in a cartoon).
